Welcome to Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club!

If you are considering joining our club or already have, these are a few important things to know:

WE ARE A VOLUNTEER ORGANISATION.

Please be patient - most of us have day jobs! If our communication is slow, if your information has not been loaded onto the Karri app correctly, if you are not receiving communication via the Whatsapp groups - we apologise in advance – we will get to it! In the meantime – please feel free to lend a helping hand. We are always looking for volunteers! Providing assistance in the tuckshop, helping issue access tags, welcoming new members, helping with Lifeguard and Nipper training are just a few of the ways you can show your support.

Please add the following people to your contact lists!

THE BIG BAY BAR

Our bar is open most Fridays from 17h00 to 21h00 and Sundays from 12h00 to 15h00 in season (1 September to 30 April). ALL PROCEEDS go towards the club’s running costs. The barmen are volunteers. No cash payment is accepted, please bring your debit/credit card. Corkage is charged at R50 per bottle.

TRAINING

We expect to see ALL lifeguards at training. Please bring wetsuits and running kit and arrive on time! The club coach is: Kurt Rautenbach - 083 543 1199.

TRAINING TIMES

Micro Nippers train on Sundays, Nippers and Lifeguards train on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. Please visit the contact us page for your coach's contact details to get exact times.

THE BIG BAY TUCKSHOP – PLEASE SUPPORT

Meals are often available at the tuckshop. Meals are advertised on the Whatsapp Groups. No cash payment accepted, please bring your debit/credit card.

WHATSAPP GROUPS

We use Whatsapp Groups to communicate to members. This has proven the most effective channel for communication. Please note that ONLY lifeguard related matters are to be discussed on groups. Abusive language, inappropriate comments, pornographic material and posts unrelated to lifeguarding matters will result in members being “kicked” off the groups and may result in a disciplinary hearing.

CLUB KIT

We are proud to be members of Big Bay Surf Lifesaving Club. To order your own kit please contact Nicola Rautenbach - 083 298 3862. Club Kit cannot be purchased via Karri.

CLUB COSTUMES

You can order club costumes via Karri. Christine Kennedy is responsible for ordering and issuing club costumes once payment has been received. If you are not sure of your size – she is often at the club and has a few samples for you to try on.

COMPETITION KIT

You do not need club kit or club costumes to compete (although we prefer it!). You do need a pink vest and a club skull cap. These can be ordered on the Karri App or from the tuckshop. If you are collecting your skull cap / pink vest – just show the Tuckshop volunteers your payment on Karri.

KARRI PAYMENT SOLUTION

Big Bay Surf Life Saving Club is growing from strength to strength. With the growth comes a number of challenges, one of which includes keeping track of payments, invoicing and reconciling monies received.

The benefits of the Karri app are applicable to both you as a member and us as an organization. Dealing with cash is a safety and security concern. It is also difficult to keep track of lots of EFTs with different references. There is NO charge to members for this application. It is FREE to download from either the Apple Store or Google Play Store and it uses less data than Whatsapp and allows for payments with a click of a button.

If you are not prepared to make use of Karri but wish to remain a member of the club – Please contact the Treasurer so that alternative arrangements can be made.

ACCESS TAGS

These provide you with access to the club. Please do not lend your tag to anyone. You can contact Darren Willars at 082 465 0861 to set you up with a tag.  You can purchase access tags via Karri. If you lose your access tag please let us know so that we can deactivate it. You will also be required to purchase a new one.

RENTING OF CLUB FACILITIES

As a member you now qualify for discounted rates to hire the club for a party or function. Please speak to Nina Vogt at 076 953 6972 for more information.

RACK FEES

If you have any personal craft that you would like to keep at the club, you can rent a rack. Rack fees can be purchased on Karri. Please visit the Membership Fees page for rates.

MEMBERSHIP FEES

Membership fees are due every year before the start of the season (1 September). We urgently ask that you please make sure these are paid in full by the time the season starts. If you are being billed the incorrect amount on Karri – please contact Lisa Biggs at 082 990 3304. Please visit the Membership Fees page for rates.

ANNUAL RETESTS & COURSES

Lifeguards are required to do an annual retest which comprises components from the lifeguard course, however there is no theory exam. Please make sure these are done as soon as possible to ensure a smooth-running season. For more questions on this, speak to Garry Meade at 079 496 4433 and Darren Willars at 082 465 0861. Other courses are also available from time to time such as Level 3 First Aid, IRB Crewmans or IRB Drivers. Please contact Connor Rautenbach at 084 464 0671 and Darren Willars at 082 465 0861 if you are interested.

DOGS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON THE PREMISES.

PLEASE DO NOT LITTER AND CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELF!

PLEASE USE WATER SPARINGLY.

We are excited to have you a part of the Big Bay family and hope you further your lifesaving career to the best of your ability.
